INSPIRATION THURSDAY, OLD CLOTHESLINE

Farm Clothesline, courtesy of: gardenweb.com
When I think of inspiration for wanting to have a farm, or at least space of our own out of the city, one thing that always came to mind was being able to dry clothes outside.  I remember my Grandmother drying sheets outside and those sheets were the most wonderful things to sleep on.

So when I saw this picture, I was immediately drawn to it.  There's the ubiquitous white picket fence in the background too.  It's funny, as I stare at this picture, other than the fence, it could be a spot on the farm over by some trees.     Putting up two poles like this for a clothesline is on our ever growing list.

Maybe this weekend while I'm on the zen machine I'll find the perfect spot. Until then, today is my blog day off, enjoy your day and see you back here tomorrow.

  1. One of the first things I did when I bought my house was to put up a clothesline. I can't explain the pleasure of it, but there is something wonderful about hanging clothes even on cold days. Don't put one too close to trees, however. Birds perch on the branches, and then . . .

    1. Ha, I totally never thought about that. Put it in a nice open area, away from potential, um, "rewashing"? Ha. I totally can imagine how nice it will be. :-)

  2. LOVE my clothesline! My dryer went up early this spring, so I have been forced to hang everything. I am in NO rush to invest in another one... although I won't have much of a choice come winter.. Even though I could use it during the winter, with two young kids and two work outfits... Im gonna need a dryer LoL!

    1. I totally hear ya. Our dryer (in town, don't have one at the farm) is not getting as hot as it used to and I'm thinking we'll need a new one eventually. But I could do with take wet clothes out there and hanging them on the line, it's a nice trade off i think, LOL!

  3. Crawling in between freshly dried sheets from the clothesline..... a definite pleasure. There is something soothing and satisfying about hanging clothes on the line and watching them sway in the breeze.

    1. Ah what a nice observation. I never thought about from that perspective. I can't wait! I also love that we don't have to worry about neighbors wondering if we've lost our minds hanging out laundry in the neighborhood, ha.

  4. I love these Inspiration Thursdays! Do you mind if I copy your idea and have an Inspiration Sunday on my blog? I'll totally give you credit for the idea :-) I think it will help me get into a blog routine :)

    1. Oh my gosh, I don't mind at all! Thank you. What's that old phrase, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

I originally started it (before the "Pinterest" phenomenon, haha), after having a bunch of pictures on my hard drive of things I saw that I liked and I had saved to remind me to do "someday" when we had property. Then we got the property and I thought I'd share them on the blog. I decided Thursday was as good a day as any, ha. As I started to use up the photos I had saved, I began looking online for more things that inspire me and I share them now as well. I like to write a little blurb about why it inspires me and what I want to do with it on our property...SOMEDAY, ha.

And yes, having something to make a routine really helps. I started my "Vintage Poster" post on Sundays. Then not too long ago I started "Friday Funny".

Thanks again and I urge everyone to follow your blog, it's great! :-)

  5. You can tell I am overworked this time of year cause when I see this photo, all I am thinking is "how does this person have such small laundry loads? I am jealous".
