The other day, on our way back from the farm, we decided to stop in Hobby Lobby and just roam around. We needed to look for door pulls and/or knobs. Our closet doors will need something on them since we're not replacing them anymore. We stumbled across these static knobs that look like antique door knobs.
Notice the keyhole detail, very cool. Since these are going on white doors, I'm going to paint the part of the door behind the "keyhole" black, so that it looks like it might really be one. There will be pics each step of the way once I work on this.
Closeup of the detail of the knob portion. It doesn't turn of course, I guess you could say it's more of a "pull", but made in the form of an old doorknob. It's a very heavy cast iron metal, great detail and in a beautiful brownish bronze color that will match the floors perfectly.
This is where we are going to put these. The closet doors had a random assortment of knobs, some functional, some not so functional. So with these finds, we can just cover up the old holes that were there, and have a way to pull the doors open. Should look really nice. We needed three. Guess how many they had? Yep, three. And the best part of all? They were $7.99 each. Oh wait. Did I tell you that there was one of Hobby Lobby's famous sales and they were 50% off? Yep, got all three for $12 total.
Update: We realized we needed something on the inside of the doors as well, or when you pull them open, there would just be a hole on the other side! So I went on a mission to find three more. Went to one Hobby Lobby at lunch, they were sold out of this knob. On the way home, I went to another one and found two! UPDATE: I found the last one! Woo hoo! I love it when a plan comes together!
Very nice. And brilliant to recycle perfectly good items in place of letting them land in landfill or letting them rust away to nothing.
ReplyDeleteYou must be thrilled - they look like they will be perfect:)
What a great find! These little finishing touches will really make the house!
ReplyDeleteThose look amazing! Love the rustic look...
ReplyDelete@ Dawn: Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, we think it's a great combination of antique and farmhouse. Check back soon, I'll show pictures of what they look like on the doors! Fingers crossed!
ReplyDelete@ Dani: Aww, thanks for the kind words. Yes, we love finding stuff we can reuse. Save it don't waste it. At least that's what we strive for. WIsh everyone in the world would think like that.
ReplyDelete@ Robin: Yes, the little touches are what we can't wait to start doing. We hope they'll work out great. :-)
