IDENTIFY THIS RED BERRY

Red Berry
Anyone know what these are?  I see them springing up around the property.  I'm sure it's some sort of decorative berry but I'm trying to identify the stuff we find out there on the farm.  I've been a city boy for too long, LOL!

I do know it's not a holly berry because of the leaves.
But after that, I'm stumped.

Thoughts?

  1. Could they be wintergreen berries?

  2. If it is a vine, I say it is Carolina Snailseed, Cocculus carolinus. It is a pretty, but hard to control native. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/ornamentals/nativeshrubs/cocculuscarolin.htm

  3. Barbara - I'd love for them to be that because I think those are edible (or medicinal) and I love that kind of stuff. But the leaves look a tiny bit different. Don't worry anyone, I won't eat anything wild that I'm not 100% sure what it is, ha.

Bluestem - Hey, that's a good choice too, it looks very much like that from the google images I looked up. Funny that I was thinking I might do some native stuff and look, I already have some native stuff growing, ha. I'm not sure it's a vine, I just saw it on the ground so I assumed it was a bush of some sort but I should check again. It's near a tree and I might have not noticed where it went to. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for the info!!! And if I haven't mentioned before, everyone should check out Bluestem's beautiful native prairie yard. Incredible!
